Question
I,m interested in finding blueberry seeds I live over seas and climate is cold winter -20C, at worth and mild sunny summer high +40C at most
what kind of blueberry seed you recommend is patriot right type
and where can I get such seeds

Answer
Hi Zod,
Thanx for your question.  Blueberries are propagated vegetatively.  That means they are propagated from cuttings in large greenhouses.  It's going to be hard to find seeds as this is not the usual method of propagation.

These sellers are in the USA and I don't know if you will be able to get the seeds into Iran either through Customs or through your Ministry of Agriculture.  I just don't know.  You can try this link:
www.angelfire.com/biz/kyblueberry/Seeds.html  - they claim to sell blueberry seeds.

I also saw blueberry seeds on ebay.com and on Amazon.com.  Just do a search for that when you get on their website.  Patriot blueberries are hybrids and will not come true from seed.  That means that they cannot be grown from seed.  The seed is not genetically stable due to hybridization.

In order to successfully grow blueberries, your soil needs to be acidic with a pH of around 4.0-4.5 and have about 7-10% organic matter or more.  There is a chill requirement for most blueberrie and I believe you have that with your winters.

It's hard to say what to recommend to you for blueberry types because I don't really know your terrain.  You're not going to have much choice as there aren't many seeds available out there.  You should probably run a test.  Buy a few varieties and plant them out and see how they perform.  I think it will take 3-5 years to get berries from seed to adult plant.

I hope this helps.
Tom
