white fungus? on pots

Question
Thanks for the quick answer. I live in WV - just moved here from Florida and brought most of my orchids with me. I don't know about the water, but it is pretty hard.

Question -
I am a beginner orchid grower and have about 6 plants. Have had a few of them for years and they bloom yearly. My question is I use mostly the clay orchid pots and they seem to get a white coating or fungus on the outside of the pot. Usually weekly or so I wipe each pot outside but it always comes back. The plants seem ok. All are open bottom on saucers indoors in front of a huge window with plenty of air circulation. Any idea on what this is or how to get rid of it ? Thanks !

Answer -
Sally,

I suspect that your fungus is minerals from your water. If so all you can do is keep wiping it off. Where do you live and do you have hard water?

Answer
Sally,

Yep, I get mineral buildup on all my pots, I gave up on keeping them clean a long time ago. I'm in northern Indiana. I just figure that the pots look more rustic and antique. If you find a way to keep them all clean let me know.

Good luck.
