Spruce rooting

Question
I read Tom's answer regarding the rooting of Spruce cuttings, but I have a different situation.
My Christmas tree, the top 6 feet of a larger tree, has now grown cones and the branches are starting to bud out. Is there anything I can do to further this process with planting the tree as the result? It's just a little larger than a cutting, but it's trying so hard--.

Answer
I'm afraid not. For a cutting to produce roots, the base must be green and supple. In this case, the base is most likely woody, which would prevent the cutting from rooting. You are best served to take a regular cutting, start it indoors, and then transplant it in the spring.

Good luck, and have a great weekend.

Regards,

Mike
