QUEEN PALM TREES

Question
WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT THE SPIKES GROWING IN OUR QUEEN PALMS?  HOW CAN WE PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING?

Answer
Hi Linn,, I'm not sure what you mean by spikes? if it is the pod like protrusions growing out the top, they are seed pods in the first stage of formation; this is the natural way for the palm to produce seeds. Cut them off at this stage to avoid an inflorescence from forming, but be careful they can be heavy. The only other thing I cant think that could be "spikes" is new fronds emerging, if this is the case they will develop into fronds. Nick
