Indoor Palm Plants

Question
What would cause some of the spreading green fronds to turn yellowish and then brown on the outer 5 inches of the leaves?  Also what are the results of underwatering/overwatering?

Answer
Hi Larry, You hit on two of the possible causes, under or over watering, the soil should be allowed to dry and then watered thoroughly, too much on the roots or too little for a unusual period of time will cause browning of the tips or entire frond, but the usually cause is lack of humidity, Palms love a humid environment, and usually indoor Palms get very little. Hot air heating is the worse, but even with forced hot water, the Palms need frequent misting, to imitate humidity, (a humidifier is the best way..). Keeping the Palms misted will deter spider mites also, the bane of indoor plants. Nick
