elephant ears transplant

Question
Should I cut the ears back after transplanting?  They are pretty dried up.  I know the bulbs are ok and moist but the ears are hurting....I think I will cut and hope for next year.  We are really hot and dry right now.  Normally a very moist and tropical area.  My banana transplants didn't do so well either.  Think I waited too long.  The ones we did in May are thriving.  Just did the ears and more bananas.

Answer
Hi Susie, they both like copious amounts of water and wilt if it isn't provided (especially the elephant ears);  cut back the yellow wilted ears and don't worry about it...but know that this trend will continue if they don't get watered almost constantly and are in the shade. In their natural habitat, they are under a canopy (shade) and are subjected to water constantly; Bananas need it also, but won't show the lack of it, as abruptly as the ears will. Elephant ears will respond quickly if given the irrigation and shade, as will the bananas....Nick
