repotting a masscane

Question
Hi,
I was given an 8 year old mass cane plant about 8 months ago that is now over 8 feet tall! When the plant was given to me it was and still is in a pot that is maybe 10 inches across. My question is - can I repot this plant? If so ,how big of a pot? Is this gonna kill it?And it's starting to lean. I love this plant it's the only one that I haven't killed and I don't want too!It has also grown at least a foot or more since I got the plant - is there a way to make other plants from this one? Thank you for any help!

Answer
Hi Teresa, You can repot it, they are very resilient (hence, your not being able to kill it:)..they do well with a small container, but the bigger one would be needed to stabilize the crown, and prevent it from toppling. When it sends out a side shoot, snip it off from the trunk and dip it in a rooting hormone and put it in its own small container and it will root for you. I usually use a light potting mix with perlite mixed in and keep it evenly moist until roots form. Nick
