Red Banana

Question
We have a red banana that is about 6 ft tall. One of our dogs decided to chew on the trunk and chewed a whole in the main leaf shoot. Now the main part of the plant wants to fall over to the ground because it is weak in the chewed spot. We have it propped up for now.  Do we just cut it it off and hope that new leaves grow up from the middle of it or somehow try and mend it so maybe it will be okay?
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Tracey, because of the wound, it is probably better to cut the trunk directly under it and remove the entire crown and BBa new pseudostem will grow out of the center of the cut, you will see it in a matter of days. Bananas are very resilient and the plante will have a new crown within a month. Nick
