Fiberous Banana trees

Question
QUESTION: The leaves turning brown on the tips about a month after coming out. Am I over fertilizing or over watering? I have two plants in pots.

ANSWER: Hi Jerry, your Bananas are stressed, and being in a container could be the issue; Bananas grow from an underground root system called a Corm, and it needs plenty of room to expand. I have never been able to sustain any Bananas (even the acclaimed "Super Dwarf") in even the largest of containers.  The browning tips are the first sign, the entire leaf will eventually brown/yellow and bend at the Petiole; bottom line here Jerry, is they need to be in the ground. QUESTION: This brown leaf problem started to happen after transplanted them into a larger container. This is only my second year trying these plants. The first year they did great in smaller containers.

Answer
...I have given seminars on growing Bananas, and beside not getting enough irrigation "or" the Corm rotting from sitting in standing water, they very seldom display these symptoms; check and make sure that they are getting ample moisture, but not wet feet. Nick
