banana tree support

Question
I inherited a banana tree that is probably 11 feet tall...  It is really bending over and I would like to know what to do to keep it healthy and standing upright...  I have not fed it and have had it 2 months...  It is in a very large terracotta pot and getting plenty of sun near our wall of windows...  HELP!  I don't want to lose this gorgeous plant!

Answer
Hi Lisa, this is a real uphill battle, first they need to be in the ground, no container can accommodate a Banana of this size; once in the ground, they need copious amounts of water and fertilizer to thrive, yet they will survive with less. You didn't say where you were located, because they are tropical, and even a zone 9 like Southwest Florida is tough to grow them. Let me know if you are in a warm climate zone, then we can address proper treatment of the plant. Nick
