remove banana tree

Question
I live in South Florida.
I have MANY banana trees in several areas on my property. I would like to REMOVE an area of banana trees to grow something new. How do I remove (for good) not just the babies, but the mature tree? I tried everything I can think of, but they just keep growing back!!!! Thank you in advance for any help you may offer. Darlene

Answer
Hi Darlene, if nothing else, Bananas are resilient! underground there is a large Rhizome called a Corm, its like a big Potato, and as long as it is viable, it will continue to send out pups; this Corm must be either dug up, or killed with a herbicidal drench , otherwise it will continue to perpetuate new plants.
