Bouganvilla plants

Question
We have just returned to Florida for the winter and found our several bouganvilla plants looking quite wilted and many dried discarded flowers at the base of the plants.   While there are some flowers there are also many branches with dried up brown coloured flowers.  We have now watered the plants well and given them some diluted Miracle Grow.   Do you have any suggestions for our sickly looking plants?

Answer
Hi Jen, prune them way back, and I mean to within 3 feet of the ground, this will stimulate new and healthy growth; Bougs tend to get very leggy if this isn't done once a  year, usually in  late Spring , so that by the time Winter arrives they have refurbished their beautiful bracts. In this case, I would do it now, and come Spring they will have begun their new growth and won't need it.  From that point on though, each Spring give them a good pruning. Nick
