balcony flowers

Question
I live one mile from the ocean in a 15th floor south exposure condo in south Florida. I would like to have some flowering plants along the edge of both my narrow, 20 ft. long, baloneys. I am very concerned about attracting bugs and ants that may come inside, what types of plants do you recommend, and how could the bug and ant problem be avoided?

Answer
Omar, I would put in some lavender weeping Lantana, they are a wonderful container flower that spread out and down from the balcony giving you a beautiful carpet type covering of lavender flowers (small). They won't need much care and love all the sun they can get, just a watering occasional and they are happy. I put them at the top of my list of care free plants that are forgiving of neglect.  I would get the type container that can be connected to the top railing of you balcony it let them drape down.
