petunias

Question
i have petunias in pots and baskets and over the last two weeks they have become very leggy with fewwer flowers on , what can i do to restore them to their former glory ?

Answer
Hi Caroline

I think that the problem may be that you haven't dead headed the plants as the flowers die off.  To do this you need to nip out the faded bloom just behind the flower so that you take the developing seed pod out as well as the flower.

As your plants have become very leggy by now it might just be a matter of pruning each plant back by about half to one third of its length.  Cut the plant just above a leaf, water well and add some general fertilizer to the water the first time.  Your plants should begin to bush up in no time and you'll have lovely flowers in a couple of weeks.
