white poplar

Question
So I decided to remove 2 white poplar trees from my yard since I seen that the roots were starting to pop up in my grass. I was able to remove the whole stump and cut of the 1/2 inch round roots. How much of the root should I remove? I have started to remove some of my grass where these roots have been exposed, but up where the stump was as I remove on roots another pops up. How should I best control these to kill off the roots? I do not want millions of suckers poping up. The trees are a little over twos years in age.

Thank you

Answer
If you dug up the stump of a two year old tree you should not have a problem with sprouting even if you did not dig all the roots out. IF you do get any sprout you can wipe the leaves  with Roundup. Put some Roundup on a rag and wipe it across the leaves. The herbicide will be transported to he roots and kill the roots. The reason I say "wipe" instead of spraying the Roundup may get on the grass and it will kill the grass. By wiping the leaves you keep the Roundup off the other plants nearby.
