Boxwood stump regrowth.

Question
What can I do to make sure boxwood stump bases do not regrow?
I recently chainsawed 12 to 6-8" below the grounds surface.  Because I did not remove the root ball (base with most of the roots), I am concerned that there might be regrowth.  How can I garantee the stumps will not have any regrowth?  I will be planting new shrubs in close proximity, and definitely cannot have the old shrubs growing up out of the ground.

Thank you for your help,
Lisa

Answer
Lisa,
I think you pretty much assured that the boxwood would not grow back. The only other precaution that you could take would be to cover the area with heavy gauge plastic to smother out any possible regrowth from the roots, although I feel this is unlikely.
Good luck.
