Another question...Will arborvities survive in the shade underneath larger trees?

Hi again

Arborivitea (which is what I think you mean) are conifers and grow very large (20+ feet).  In shade they may grow taller trying to reach the light - this is also something you might be able to research on line - trees are not really my area of expertise.  Sorry, but good luck hunting!
