no blooms on crepe mrytle

Question
We planted a crepe last spring (it was just a tiny switch) the first season we got flowers, this is the 2nd year although the tree (red dynamite) is growing strong and beatiful there was no flowers.  We have not pruned the tree, nor have we fertilized it other than when we first planted it.  It is in full sun.  We are perplexed because it looks very healthy and it has realy grown. With the weather in NJ this summer we have had plenty of rain so that shld not be the problem

Answer
Hello Trudi

Thank you for your question.

As your crepe myrtle seems to be growing well in all other respects, it may be that it just needed a bit of a nudge this year.  I think it may be too late this year but next spring try feeding it with a fertilizer with a high potassium content as this is what a plant needs to flower well.
