global blue spruce

Question
i have a 5 ft blue spruce for approximate 15 yrs , for some reason it only has new growth on a third of the trees branches , it shows no visible sign of fungus or disease , i have recently over pruned to to keep shape , please advise your thoughts , i live in long island , NY

Answer
Hello Patrick

When you say you've 'over pruned' your spruce, did you cut into the woody part of the stem/branch?  If you cut out all the leaf growth on a particular stem, that stem will never put out any growth at all.  You should trim out only about 2"-3" to maintain the shape.

I'm sorry, but it sounds to me that you may have permanently damaged the tree.
