Rose buds

Question
I'm a real novice!  Can you tell me how to determine where my rose will bud, other than the obvious bud after it developes.  I see lots of new growth and wonder if the bud is at the center?

Thanks!

Answer
The rose canes grow out of the sides of the main canes of a rose. If you look carefully at one of the main canes you will see what looks like fine lines with a tiny bump in the center. To give you an example. If you look at your fingers, palm side down, you will see lines going across where the joints are these lines are identical to the lines on the rose canes where the new canes are going to grow out from. That tip from an old man, really helped me when I was young and first starting to grow roses. Now after the canes has grown there will be leaf buds coming from the new canes and these look like a small reddish brown bump. Hope this helps.
