My rose bushes are sick!

Question
Lynne,
I live in McMinnville, TN, about 2 hours southeast of Nashville. My three rose bushes were a Mother's Day gift to me from my husband, and when we bought them they were very healthy and green, and the flowers were beautiful!  I transplanted them a week ago into flower beds.  They now have some leaves that are turning yellow.  Some of the yellow leaves have dark spots on them and are wilting and the once-thick foliage is thinning down dramatically.  I dug up one of them and transplanted it to a different location, thinking that the problem may be drainage.  Its too early yet to see if that will fix the problem.  Do you have any suggestions on what may be causing my bushes to look this way, and what I can do to about it?  Thanks and I抣l look forward to hearing from you!

Answer
It is not unusual for a rose that has been transplanted to have some yellow leaves as roses hate to be moved. Did you use any fertilizer on them as sometimes they will re-act to it a they are heavily fertilized in the nursery and don't need anymore? Was there too much water or not enough water? Have they been sprayed with anything? All these things will sometimes put a rose under stress when transplanted. If the temperature was hot when you planted them, this can cause problems or if the temperature went higher after planting. The dark spots on the laves is a fungal disease called Black Spot and can be kept under control by spraying with a fungicide such as Orthos Rose Pride or any spray for rose Black Spot.
