Over 6 years ago we got this plant.  The roses were more like those you would buy in a flower bouquet at the store.  They now look very different and we are trying to determine what type of rose plant this is and or why it changed.  (We are battling with white-flies this year too)

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Kathy,

The rose you have in the photo is Dr. Huey.   It is a very strong growing rambler type rose.  It was/is used as the rootstock for grafted roses.  Over time, it will take over the desired rose and it will kill off the wanted rose.   It is very striking when it blooms but it only blooms once a season.

For your white flies, you can use a chemical spray called pyrethrum.  It is made from chrysanthemum plants and works well.

Depending on your like or dislike for Dr. Huey it can be left there or dug up.  Please remember that it is a large growing plant.

Hope that helps and thanks for asking.

Jay
