geraniums & rose bush

Question

Followup To
Yes I do mean the leaves, not the blooms.  The leaves are turning pinkish red.

Question -
the leaves are turning pink to red on my geraniums.  I have a new house so everything is new this year.  I also have spots on my rose bushes. I put a fungus treatment on it last week but it seems to be getting worse.
thanks

Peggy,
Didn't understand if your leaves or your blooms are turning on your Geraniums.I'm sure you mean your blooms since the leaves should always be green. If they are red, then by turning pink just means the blooms are fading and need to be pinched or cut off.
The roses...ah the roses. I know exactly what you are going through. It seems a constant struggle with them at times.Really depends on what brand you bought.Never buy cheap roses, always buy the expensive proven winners from Jackson Perkins or another well known brand. Most of these will have to be through mail order unless you are lucky enough to have a local nursery that sells that brand.Lowes I believe have started sell a good brand called "proven Winners" but I haven't seen anything I would buy at WalMart as far as roses are concerned.
Treating with a black spot or a fungicide treatment is usually always necessary no matter what brand but my J&Ps have not shown a black spot yet.Knock on wood. I have only had them several months now.But I do have some other types(don't even know what brand)that are looking pitiful and full of blackspots and insect attacks as well as only 2 weeks of blooms. This one will be replaced for sure.
So it really depends on the brand when you speak of roses. If it is a new rose from J&P they will refund your money or exchange it within a year I think.
So,that's my opinion on roses.Good luck on your summer gardening,I know we all need it!

Answer
Peggy,
Wow.That's got me stumped. I have never seen a geranium leaf turn colors except yelow or brown depending on the reasons. They turn brown and usually you just pinch them off.If they are yellow, they are usually getting too much water or need to be fed with plant food. But I've never seen them turn pink or red. Go ahead and try some Miracle Gro or any generic brand of that type to see if they green up.Geraniums need full sun,so make sure they are getting enough direct sunlight.Let me know what results incur, because this a very interesting dilemma although it doesn't sound unattractive,it does sound unusual to say the least.
