rhododendrons

Question
I just received a detaild answer to a question about rhodendrons.....when I tried to reply with thanks I was not allowed to be cause of an excess of characters. Therefore I shall reply here.
My plant is facing north...gets most sun in the afternoon. Its not in deep shade or full sun. With regards to Starbucks coffee grounds.....are the normal household coffee grounds as useful?
I shall digest the rest of your answer and try to get my plant up to capacity.
Many thanks for your time and effort.
Cheers, BM

Answer
Good morning, Bob, I apologize for the longwinded answers I seem to need here much of the time.  But there is so much to explain with these problems people write about.  There is so much bad information all around us.  It is my one shot at giving you the truth.  I do the best I can.

Now, you wrote about your non blooming Rhododendron a few days ago, by way of explanation to the rest of the world which will be reading this 5 years from now.

North facing positions are usually the darkest.  You have a decent amount of light?  Are there adjacent Rhododendrons or Azaleas that bloom there?  What about other plants?  Is there enough to keep any other flowering plant happy?  Does ANYTHING bloom there?

Starbucks is free and it comes in quantities that you would not get unless you drank 500 cups of coffee a day.  Do you drink that much coffee, Bob?

Regular coffee grounds, including Decaffeinated, Dunkin Donuts, Hazlenut, etc., are just as good.  Black coffee with sugar is good but don't use anything that has dairy in it.  It has to be black.  It's terrific to be able to throw those grounds into your soil and do good things with it.

So go down to Starbucks anyway.  You don't have to buy anything.  They are saving money by not having to dispose of the coffee grounds with their regular trash.

It is a great thing, what they're doing.  Some of their stores are resistant because this is a very, very new idea.

Most people with gardens don't have a clue you can do this.  The ones who do, they are embarrassed to ask.  I asked 2 years ago and I was handed a plastic garbage bag and that was it.  Now I have a friend at Starbucks who brings me several bags a day.  I am realllllly lucky.

If you call them, they'll set it aside for you and you won't even have to wait if they tell you where to pick it up.  They are supposed to put it in front of the store, but due to low demand, many do not bother.  More for us, Bob.  If you call first, they'll be ready.

Let me know what else I can do for you.
