dinnerplate hybiscus

Question
It took me four plantings to get dinnerplate hybiscus to finally grow. This year I had flowers but the leaves were all eaten and looked like lace. Help.

Answer
Joyce,
Hibiscus leaves are a favorite snack for summer eating insects. They can devour a whole plant in just a few days.To prevent this from happening get a PREVENTATIVE insecticide. One that prevents and continues to protect the foliage.Apply this every 3 weeks whether you see any activity or not.You can get an all purpose for any type of insect. It comes in ready to spray or concentrate.I recommend the concentrate since you can mix it a little stronger with water and you won't have to spray every single week like you do with the ready to spray type. The plant itself is fine.It will come up just like it did last year, but you have to start watching it for insects about 2 weeks after it starts growing.Hope this helps you.
