Dying bulbs

Question
I recently bought a Phalaenopsis Mericlone after purchasing this Orchid I noticed some of the bulbs and flowers were dying. The bulbs would die before they even bloom. Any ideas why? I have it sitting in front of a window facing east.  Thanks in advance for your Debra

Answer
Debra, I assume by "bulbs" you mean "buds". It is difficult to say for sure why the buds are aborting.  When phalaenopsis are in flower they sre at their most vulnerable to environmental stresses.  For example, if they were exposed to cold or too much heat, prior to purchase or in moving them from store to home that could cause some to abort.  Sometimes the plant is just not strong enough to support all of the buds it produces. The flowers may have died from the same cause as the buds or they may have been at or near the end of their flowering cycle when you got the plant.  If the plant is healthy, it might produce a flower spike branch and new buds from the old flower spike.  I think your east window location is fine.  For now, you will need to be patient and keep the plant healthy.  Let me know when there are new developments or if you have questions about growing it.
