Why is my calla lilly is dying

Question
I bought a pottet calla lilly about 2 weeks ago. It was doing great til about 2 days ago when a saw a flower falling down. Thei look wet and soggy on the lower part of the stam. I also noticed that the soil right around the plant looks spoiled and/or rotten. By now its Flowers and leaves laying down and i can just pick them up and thei'r loose. I keep the soil moist and fertilized but it does not get lots of sun. What can i do to save it.

Answer
Hi Jenni,
Thanx for your question.  It sounds to me like your plant has got some type of fungal rot.  I would throw the plant out and make sure the soil doesn't come into contact with any other plants.  In the future, it is important that the soil be moist and not soggy and that the pot drains well.  Be careful not to overfertilize and some sun would be helpful.  If you're growing the calla outside and you live in an area that gets really hot, some shade is ok.  Like I said, I think your plant is done for and I would throw it out.  I hope this helps.
Tom
