Answer
Hi Sara,

It looks lie you Dracaena deremensis 'lemon-lime' is in a pot that is way too big. Large pots filled with excess soil tend to absorb and retain water for a long time and the roots gradually rot. A weekly watering of your plant is also is not allowing all that soil to dry out. You can keep cutting off the leaf symptoms of the root rot, but eventually you will lose the entire plant.

It may already be too late (depending on how long it is has been overpotted), but I suggest that you unpot your plant and gently shake off all excess loose soil. Try not to remove the soil in direct contact with the roots, assuming there are still some healthy roots remaining. Then, put the plant into the SMALLEST pot that the healthy roots and barely enough soil to cover them will fit into.

By reducing the pot size and the volume of soil, you are allowing the soil to dry out properly every 5-7 days and that is what the roots need.

This plant does best with several hours of direct sunlight each day, so I also recommend that you move it close to a sunny window that is uncovered throughout the day.

I have written articles on potting that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
