Help my plant is dying fast

Question
I have an indoor palm not sure what type it is.  I've only had it about a year now.  I usualy water it when the soil feels dry.  I keep it in indirect light.  It is still in the same pot that it came in but now I see roots poking throught the bottom.  The leaves are brittle and shriveled up.  What should I do to try and save this plant.  Not sure if it is do to not enough light or if it is to much, or to little water, or if it needs repotting.  Please help.  It was a pretty tree.  I will send a picture to your email

Answer
Valerie,

Palms are touchy plants and without knowing the variety of palm I can only give suggestions.  I would try moving it to a sunnier location (in Florida most palms grow outdoors in full hot sun). There is a fine line between overwatering or underwatering. Palms do not like to totally dry out but they can't stand to sit in water all day either.  I would try repotting but only into a pot no more than 2 inches larger diameter than the old pot and I would use soil that is half standard potting soil and half play sand available at most garden centers. When you water it water enough so all the soil in the pot is moist and some water goes into the drain tray under the plant, then an hour later suck out the excess with a turkey baster. Then do not water again until the top 2 inches of soil seems dry. Don't rely on just the surface of the soil, the surface can be very dry and the rest of the soil wet. I did not receive your picture yet.  If I get it I will let you know. Good luck.
