Potted indoor Azalea

Question
I have a mixed potted basket of plants consisting of a fern, Kalenchoe and a purple Azalea.  All plants are doing fine in my north patio window except the Azalea.  It is dropping leaves and flowers shriveling up. Only had this basket one week from the florist.  is the Azalea dying or does it loose its leaves then start over??

Thank you Jean

Answer
Hi Jean,
Thanx for your question.  This is really a houseplant question but I think I can still answer it.  Azalea needs acidic soil and should be potted in a separate pot.  The plant should not be losing its leaves like this.  Check for small mites on the flowers too as these pests are common.  You can buy some miticide at the hardware or DIY store.  I would pot the fern up with the Azalea and have the kalanchoe separate.  It's soil and water requirements are not as finicky as azalea and fern which need frequent watering and the azalea needs period feeding with something like Miracid.  I hope this helps.
Tom
