indoor ficus

Question
My  ficus has a white ball on the under part of the leaf where the leaf comes out from the branch. They are tiny little balls of a sticky substance which almost looks like sugar. It is NOT liquid. What is wrong?

Answer
Shelia:
This may be an insect such as a wooly aphid or mealybugs.  Google "images" of these two insects and see if they look like your problem.  If there are not too many of these, you can remove them with a Q-tip dampened with alcohol. If not, you can take a closeup photo and attach to your question to me and I will have a look.  Review your photo on your computer first- to be sure it is in focus before you hit the send button.

Thanks
Steve
