Indoor calla lilies care

Question
Hi Tom,

I had bought a couple of potted Calla lilies(multi-color small trumpets ) few weeks ago, kept them indoor and watered them when soil gets somewhat dry. About a week ago, few leaves turned yellow and flowers stared laying down. Now, few stocks laid down and even looked a bit rotten. Did I overwater them? How can stop them from dying?

Answer
Hi Janis,
Thanx for your question.  This question has been answered a number of times here on th site.  You can often find your answers quickly by using the Find function above.  With that said, here's the answer to your question.  The calla lily will go dormant after it has bloomed.  They can be kind of tough to grow indoors as a houseplant.  Once the calla has bloomed, its flower will shrivel and dry up.  Then the leaves start withering and eventually everything appears to be dead.  At this point, water the plant only enough to keep the soil from drying out completely.  Do not feed.  Place the pot in a dark, dry, cool place for 2-3 months, watering periodically but no more than once a week.  After the dormant period, bring the pot back to light and warmth.  The leaves should begin emerging again in a few weeks and the blooms about 10 weeks later.  Feed the plant with some bone meal and a balanced fertilizer 12-12-12.  I hope this helps.
Tom
