Scented perennials for a British climate

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I am thinking of giving my garden a bit if a makeover.
Could you suggest some scented perennials I could plant. Ones that would flower throughout the summer.
Also when would be the best time to plant them, I think we are nearly over our threat of frost now.

Laurence

ANSWER: Hi Laurence,
Thanx for your question. Before I can effectively answer, would you kindly tell me in what part of Britain is your garden.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: Sorry should have been more precise. I live in the north of England. Leeds. About 200 miles north of London. Can't be too bad we do grow white grapes outside about 10 miles away.

Answer
Hi Laurence,
I thank you for your patience and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.  Here is a short list of scented perennials I have compiled that should do well in the Leeds area.  I checked with some of my British sources so these should work for you and should be readily available in the local nurseries and DIYs.

Dianthus, lavender, Japanese anemone, rose, dicentra (bleeding hearts), convallaria (lily-of-the-valley, usually white but there are some pinks available, very beautiful scent), wallflower, phlox paniculata, liatris, brodiaea, aconitum, bearded iris, lonicera (honeysuckle), thalictrum, viola odorata, viola cornuta, muskmallow (malva), mints, rosemary, monarda, sweet cicely (myrrhis), valerian.

I hope this helps.

Tom
