Tiger Lily yellow leaves

Question
I "weeded" a flower bed of the house Im newly renting and went a little crazy
and accidentally pulled up a few 4 foot Tiger lilies with flower buds and those
blueberry looking things. I replanted them in the same area (with the bulbs)
once I knew what they were. they have flowered but the leaves are also
turning yellow. I put mulch down in the entire flowerbed after replanting but
its not thick. I just dont want to  look at yellow leaves and I want to make
them stronger and healthier!

Answer
Hi Candy,
Thanx for your question.  The shock of the lilies being pulled out of the ground is causing the stalk and leaves to turn yellow.  There's nothing you can do about this but most likely the plant has not been harmed.  I would deadhead the flowers and allow the stalk to continue to yellow and then cut it off at the ground once it has completely withered.  By the way, the "blueberries" you mentioned are bulbils and can be planted for more plants.  They will form roots first this winter and then in 6 months to a year put out green growth.  It will take about three or four years for the first blooms.

Usually, the bulbs have enough energy and nutrients in them to survive being pulled out and replanted.  You should have blooms next year.  I hope this helps.
Tom
