Blue Hydrangea

Question
I have a Blue Hydrangea that does not bloom no matter what. I have cut it back to the first bud as the instructions suggested. I have let the old wood stay till next year and the new growth starts at the first bud. But in any event no bloom. What in the world is the trouble?

Answer
Hi Duane,
Thanx for your question.  Blue Hydrangea is highly susceptible to cold weather.  If you have a late freeze, this will kill off any possible blooms.  Many garden centers in the north do sell hydrangeas that are not reliable bloomers because it's too cold in the spring in the north and the blossom buds are always or almost always killed.  I hope this helps.
Tom
