blue dune lyme grass

Question
Can I plant blue dune grass now?    i live on the coast in virginia.

Answer
Hi Mark,
Thanx for your question.  The standard answer is that it is best to plant perennials in the early spring or late fall.  I plant them whenever I want to as long as there is no imminent frost coming in the next 30 days.  This gives the roots time enough to get situated so the plant will survive cold temps.  I would plant in the morning before the sun gets too strong and mulch around the plant to keep the roots cool.  Side dress it with some well-composted cow manure and drench it.  If you're not having consistent rains, water at least once a week or whenever the soil starts drying out.  I hope this helps.
Tom
