Bouganvillas

Question
Hello. Have a couple of bougies who seem to have been damaged by the lower than usual temps in central california. The leaves are wilted and brown but don't seem to be dead. Should I prune them back to remove the damage, or will they recover when warmer weather comes back? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Mark,
Thanx for your question.  Between California's bad weather spells and Florida's bad weather spells, all of our tropical and sub-tropical plants have been suffering.  You may prune your bougainvilleas if there is a lot of damage, but I would just leave them alone and they will leaf out again on their own.  They're just reacting to the shock of the weather.  They'll be fine.  I wouldn't prune them too much, if at all.  I hope this helps.
Tom
