Trying to keep azaleas manageable.  How far back can you prune them without damage.

You can prune them as far back as you want. Just remember though that if you prune in the fall you will be cutting off the buds that form in the fall for bloom in spring.So you may not have blooms the following spring.It may take another spring before you see blooms.
