mexican heather

Question
I live in Dallas Texas. I planted some new Mexican Heather last year in planter boxes. The other plants that have consistently come back every year are in the same area but in the ground.
When should I expect to see some signs of life-approximately.

Thanks,
Melanie

Answer
Hi Melanie,
Thanx for your question.  Mexican Heather (Cuphea hyssopifolia) is rated hardy to Zone 8a which is about your zone.  I think they are kind of slow coming out of dormancy as far north as you are so I would wait a couple more weeks.  If you experienced an unusually cold winter, you may have lost them if the plant boxes were too exposed to the cold north wind.  I hope this helps.
Tom
