Question
I made 2 wooden window flower boxes out of poplar and was wondering if sealing or staining the wood can affect the flowers planted in them.  If not, can you recommend a sealant or stain to use?  Thank you.

Hi Terry,
Thanx for your question.  The only issue I would have with the boxes is if they don't allow for water drainage.  In otherwords, is water going to pool at the bottom of the boxes and make for a soggy environment for the roots of a plant?  I don't think the stain or sealant itself would harm the plants but a lack of drainage would.  I hope this helps.
