climbing perennial


Question
what kind of climbing perennial can i grow along chain link fence that is safe for dogs and cats? I live in the southeast corner of Iowa.

Hi Lynn,
This question proved to be rather difficult for me.  Some of the vines I thought would be harmless like honeysuckle, Virginia creeper and trumpet vines are very toxic to dogs and cats.  Clematis too. Climbing roses are not.  Grape vines aren't but grapes or raisins can be toxic.

Below is a link to a list of nontoxic plants but I didn't see many non toxic vines.  I hope this helps.
