perennial bulbs

Question
I forced alot of bulbs in pots for my house. I am wondering what to do with the bulbs until spring now that they have bloomed. Thank You.

Answer
Hi Julie,
Thanx for your question.  There's not much you can usually do with bulbs that have been forced.  Most of them will have used all of the energy they are going to have blooming at a time that is outside their norm.  You can try to save them by cutting off the spent blooms immediately and expose the leaves to sunlight which is how the plant gathers energy to store in it's bulb.  After the last hard frost, plant the bulbs.  Maybe some of them will have enough energy to survive but don't count on much next year.  It will take the ones that do have a little energy in them a year or two to recover and they may never be truly normal.  I hope this helps.
Tom
