passion vines

Question
How can i winter over passion vines? I kept them in pots, its weird that they bloom better in pots opposed to in the ground. Do they like being root bound? I also have a few shell plants that I would like to winter over, any advice?

Answer
Hi Martha,
Thanx for your question.  Do you know what kind of passion vines you have?  When I was growing tropical passion vines, I just brought the pot indoors.  There are some passion vines that will die back in the winter and be okay as long as the ground doesn't freeze.  Passiflora incarnata and P. caerulea are this way.  As far as the shell plant goes, if you're talking about Vignus caracalla, plant it in a pot and bring the pot indoors for the winter.  The plant is only hardy in Florida, South Texas and Southern California.  I hope this helps.
Tom
