Wrinkled Cat leaves

Question
Hi Wayne,
I have several cats ( the name tag has blc at the end) they were doing beautifully, nice light green leaves, lots of new roots and even new shoots on all of them. Recently I noticed that the leaves started looking wrinkled instead of being nice and smooth like they use to.

They still have the new shoots growing, one has beautiful roots, the other 2 also have shoots but the roots don't look dead but they are not as healthy as the other 1. Is there something wrong with my cats ar are they going thru a phase?

Thank you for your answer to my other question. The dendrobium is dying,it's rotting from the bottom of the cane, however I have a brand new baby at the top of the rotting cane, which I'm hoping I'll be able to save.

Many thanks
Marita

Answer
Marita, if the wrinkled leaves are old growths, that is normal. The old growths provide nourishment for the new growths and both these older pseudobulbs and their leaves shrink and shrivel as a result.  If, however, you are referring to last year's growth, those leaves and pseudobulbs should continue to be plump and normal.  If it is last years leaves that are curling, then I suspect that you have root rot.  The only way you would discover this is unpotting the plant preparatory to repotting in a standard orchid potting mix.  The roots on the surface can appear very healthy, but those down in a broken down potting mix could be rotting.  Fortunately, with new growth coming forth, this is the ideal time to repot your plants if your have not done so in the past year or two.
