new leaves on the stem.

Question
My phalaenopis is growing on two sides on the stem new leaves. Is it possible this are new plants? Can I remove the shoot and plant them, or is it better to let them stay there to grow. Thank you, greetings Joss

Answer
Greetings Josh.  Those leaves are, indeed, the first growth of new plant(s) called keikis.  They often form at nodes (ie joints) on a flower spike.  They need to grow roots where they are prior to removal and potting. The larger the keiki the more likely it is to survive the shock of transplantation.
