white fungus

Question
I have some cactus that have what I believe is the white fungus .   Question is how do I get rid of it my cactus are over 6 feet tall each and I have had them for years and would hate to lose them

Answer
Hi Sue,

Your cactus may have a fungus problem or it may be a mealybug problem. The latter has a soft, cotton-like texture. The former has a harder, crustier appearance. If you are unsure which you have, you can send a photo to me at my address below my name.

Treat the fungus problem with a fungicide spray that contains sulphur as the active ingredient. It is reasonably safe to use.

For mealybugs, spray with a mixture of 6 parts water and 1 part rubbing alcohol with a squirt of liquid soap added.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
