type of plant?

Question
Hello
I need help! I'm trying to help along a friends' plant.  He received it as a gift from an elderly friend, and it means a lot to him.  Problem is, I can't help it untill I figure out what it is.  It's about 10 inches tall, rubery stem (it's just growing up like a tree) with about a dozen leaves on it, above each leaf growth, the blossoms happen, and they're very neat looking blossoms, they sort of look like toucan beaks.  Any help you could give me on the name of the plant, and how to care for it, including how to encourage horizontal growth would be much appreciated.
THanks

Answer
Courtney,

It sounds like an interesting plant but I'm not at all sure what it is. Can you get your hands on a digital camera and send me a picture in cluding one of the flowers.  Please send it to [email protected]. I'm pretty sure I can identify it with a picture. You might set a pop can in the picture so I can judge the size better.
