Question
Dear Patricia,

My african violet plant has recently developed brown/black wilted edges on its leaves (even affecting new ones in the centre). It's still flowering and the stems look healthy. The soil doesn't look too dry/wet. What can be the problem and what can I do to save it? Thanks!

Answer
I am perplexed by your question.  Usually, when a violet has brown or black leaf edges it indicates that the plant is drying out.  When it also affects the center leaves and crown it can mean the plant is too wet.  Since you say the violet is flowering, is properly watered, not too wet or dry, I am inclined to say you might have a condition that has come up rather suddenly, maybe that has not actually reached into the flowers yet.  This could be an insect pest, or a fungal disease.  I would like to help you further if I could.  If you can email me a photo of the plant I will give you my email address.  It is [email protected].  If you can send a photo please make it as close-up as possible.  BEFORE you send a photo please check the violet again; check the soil and make sure it is not dry or too wet; examine the leaves again, and describe them as accurately as you can for me, i.e., are the leaf edges black/brown and DRY, or SOFT AND MUSHY?  This is important.  I will look forward for your email.
