Type?

Question
How do I figure out what type of nepenthese that I have? Someone gave it to me, and I don't know if I should put it outside or not. I live in Georgia so I understand if its lowland then it needs low humidity but highland is high humidity? Thanks I can send pic.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

Start here:  http://www.growcarnivorousplants.com/Articles.asp?ID=266  Nepenthes are tropical plants from Southeast Asia.  They cannot handle much cold, so they are very different from our native Sarracenia pitcher plants.  Highland and lowland is referring to elevations they come from in nature and it has nothing to do with humidity.  How much humidity they need (which you have no shortage of in Georgia) is very plant by plant.

If you don't have a tag on the plant submit a picture with a follow-up question to me and I'll do my best to help you with the ID.  I won't be able to do much if the plant has no pitchers.  If you bought the plant in a big box store, there's a good chance I'll know it.

Good Growing!
