Small Money Tree House Plant

Question
Hi!

I just bought a small money tree plant with a trunk/stem that is a little over 10 in. tall. I'm going to be taking it to my dorm (in Oklahoma if climate matters) and I know nothing about the care of this plant. So if you could give me some information on caring for it I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, I didn't buy it from a nursery so I'm not sure how healthy it is or how well it has been taken care of.  The leaves are green as is the top part of the trunk but the bottom looks brown and flaky.  The few instructions that came with it specified that I water it once a day until soil is damp, keep it in a sunny place but out of direct sunlight, and fertilize it once a month. It did not specify which fertilizer.

Thank You!!

Answer
Hi Shagun,

One of the difficulties with the currently popular money trees is that many are being grown by non-professionals and put into unusual planters of different sizes and shapes. In other words, there are no standards for these plants and it is virtually impossible to provide instructions for their care, as each one is unique. This is particularly true of the watering frequency. Daily watering is probably too much, but if yours is a bonsai and the light s good and the temps are warm, then it may be appropriate. If you email a photo to my address below, I may be able to provide better help.

Bright indirect light is best. Fertilizing is over-rated. Any standard fertilizer diluted to half strength and applied monthly will do.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
